Testimonial: BACK to Health

Before attending a PRIMALity workshop my expectations were good. After attending they were very good.

Darryl is a great teacher and has lots of knowledge. You can tell when you talk to him that he has really studied movement in all its forms. The thing that stood out was you actually feel better when you move naturally, instantly.

You also feel totally tired even though it feels like you haven't done much - but that is to be expected when you are moving as you are supposed to.

I injured my back and groin with some nerve damage that was unconfirmed while driving buses 4 years ago and was more or less told by doctors that all they were going to do for me is give me a sheet of paper with back exercises on and to come back if 'there were any problems'. I decided to take matters into my own hands as they clearly were not going to find out the root cause.  After 3 years I was still in the same condition and still overweight.

12 months ago I started to follow a Paleo diet and read various sources of information including joining a Paleo social network of which Darryl Edwards was a member. This all helped me obtain a healthy weight and become fitter than I ever have. The PRIMALity workshop was the topping on the cake and gave me help that will stay with me forever.  Surprisingly, my back injury has improved within two weeks of doing my first PRIMALity workshop and I have suffered for 4 years so that has to be something.

I highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in fitness even if you consider yourself incredibly fit, you will be surprised.

Testimonial: No More Sciatica!

I am 44 years old and have suffered from chronic sciaitica for about 14 years.  I visited Darryl a year ago for a consultation, I was fed up of having to take constant medication for pain relief and it was getting to the point where I was avoiding movement at any opportunity.  I was also concerned about a potential addicition to painkillers.

I saw many specialists over that time frame: chiropractors, orthopaedic surgeons, osteopaths and as a last resort an acupuncturist.  But all to no avail.  The orthopeadic surgeon recommended surgery, a lumbar laminectomy which I resisted for years.  I didn't want to get an operation on my spine!

A friend of mine recommended Darryl as they had suffered low back pain for a while and they had success with his treatment.  After a brief discussion on the phone with Darryl he seemed to advocate movement as a way to correct and restore natural function with the aim of reducing and alleviating pain through exercise and the mind.  I was happy to take a look at his methods, it was something else to try anyway.

Darryl started with a physical and postural assessment, we also discussed my lifestyle, diet, my personal and my family's response to my pain.  He hit home the fact that to reduce my discomfort I had to start moving again and to focus on function rather than structure.  He also wrote me a dietary plan to support mobility.  Which is something the other specialists had never dealt with.  This was easier said then done of course and I was slightly skeptical of his approach to begin with (sorry Darryl) - a lot of movement caused pain and I wasn't sure how "food" could help.  But he told me to persevere...

After a few weeks there was significant improvement, after a month or two I was taking less pain relief and I can happily say 12 months on I have totally alleviated my low back pain and I no longer take any pain relief medication - the first time in years!  I now play sport, play with the kids and take on board activities I would never had attempted previously.

A real sincere thanks for all your work Darryl and helping me to thrive in movement again without pain!

Movement!

Today I passed my REPS level 4 course on "The Management of Low Back Pain".  Very difficult course, and the physiology hard to grasp at times.  Just wasn't sure when or if it would sink in.

With up to 80% of adults suffering low back pain at some point in their lives, I know this will prove very valuable both for my clients and also for my own self diagnosis and treatment.

This field of corrective exercise focuses on passive movement based treatment.  Reducing the impact of musculoskeletal imbalances in the body through natural movement.  I look forward to discussing and sharing this with you all in the future.

To paraphrase a quote I heard from my lecturer:  "Do we get old because we stop moving?, or do we stop moving because we get old?"
